Agent Installation

Install the Cloudmon agent on any device you want to monitor. Supported on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android. Once installed, the agent is automatically discovered by the Cloudmon controller.

Overview

The Cloudmon agent establishes a direct connection between the monitored device and the Cloudmon controller, enabling detailed performance, availability, and health monitoring that goes beyond what agentless methods can provide. Once the agent is installed and running, it is automatically discovered by the controller and will appear under Agents in the navigation bar. No manual registration is required.

A single agent installation enables monitoring across multiple areas, depending on what is configured, including laptops and desktops, servers, virtual machines, Hyper-V, Docker, databases, plugins, and Digital Experience Monitoring.

How to Install the Agent

Agent installation packages and step-by-step instructions are accessed directly from the Cloudmon controller:

  • Click the user icon in the top-right corner of the Cloudmon controller window.
  • Select Help from the menu.
  • You will be taken to the Agent article page by default. Scroll down or select Getting Started → Installation in the navigation panel to find the installation steps for your operating system.
  • Follow the steps for your OS. Once the installation is complete, the agent will connect to the controller automatically, and the device will appear under Agents in the top navigation bar.

The agent can be installed directly on the device being monitored, or on a separate host with network access to the target, depending on the monitoring scenario. For database monitoring, such as MySQL and Oracle, the agent can be installed on a remote host with connectivity to the database server.

What the Agent Enables

Once installed, the Cloudmon agent unlocks a range of monitoring capabilities that are not available through agentless methods:

  • Liveness monitoring: Detects device downtime and restarts the device, ensuring availability data is updated in near real time.
  • High-frequency resource monitoring: Polling intervals starting from 1 second and reporting intervals as short as 1 minute, giving up-to-date insights into critical devices.
  • Automatic remediation: Supports automatic execution of remediation scripts when threshold breaches occur, reducing downtime and response time.
  • Service and process monitoring: Tracks active services and processes running on the device, including CPU and memory usage per process.
  • Installed software inventory: Detects and monitors all software installed on the device, providing a continuously updated software inventory.
  • Hyper-V monitoring: Hyper-V servers can only be monitored using the Cloudmon agent. Once installed, Hyper-V monitoring is enabled from the agent settings.
  • Docker host monitoring: Monitor Docker containers and hosts, including container resource usage, availability, and performance.
  • Database monitoring: Required for Oracle and MySQL instance monitoring. The agent connects to the database and collects deep performance metrics.
  • Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM): Tracks application performance and network interactions from an end-user perspective.
