Azure Network Topology

Visualise the relationships between Azure resources in a connected subscription as an interactive topology map. Explore VNets, subnets, virtual machines, gateways, network security groups, and more, with filters to focus on a specific region or resource type.

Overview

Azure Network Topology gives you a visual map of the resources in a connected Azure account and how they relate to each other. Resources are shown as nodes, and the lines between them represent relationships such as subnet membership, VPN connections, and routing associations. The map is useful for understanding how traffic flows between parts of your Azure environment, identifying dependencies before making changes, and confirming that connectivity is configured as expected.

To access the topology map, navigate to Cloud → [Azure account] → Network Topology.

The topology map is interactive. Use the zoom controls to zoom in and out, or use your scroll wheel. Pan by clicking and dragging the canvas. Clicking a node highlights its direct relationships and shows its name label. The toolbar also provides controls for resetting the view, toggling labels, and switching between layout modes.

Use the Refresh button to reload the topology from Azure with the latest resource state. Use the Rediscover button to trigger a full re-scan of the subscription and update the resource inventory.

Filters

Three filter controls sit at the top of the topology canvas and can be combined to focus the map on a specific slice of your Azure environment:

SubscriptionSelect a specific Azure subscription to view. Each subscription is listed with the number of resources it contains. Subscriptions with no resources discovered show a count of 0.
RegionFilter the map to show only resources in a specific Azure region, for example eastus or centralindia. An All regions option is also available. Each region shows a resource count.
Resource TypesFilter the map to highlight resources of a specific type, such as Virtual Machines, Network Interfaces, Public IPs, VPN Connections, VNet Gateways, or Local Network Gateways. Selecting a type highlights matching nodes on the map and dims all others, making it easy to locate specific resource categories in a dense topology.

Active filters appear as chips along the top of the canvas and can be removed by clicking the X on each chip.

Summary Panel

Clicking a subscription chip opens a summary panel showing the total resource count, relationship count, number of resource groups, number of regions, and the number of subscriptions discovered, including how many contain resources. This gives a quick inventory of what Cloudmon has discovered in the selected scope before exploring the map in detail.

Resource Icons

Each node on the topology map uses an icon that identifies its resource type. Resources with a red highlight indicate a security group or firewall resource such as a Network Security Group. Resources shown as green boxes are virtual machines. VRF nodes represent virtual networks. Globe icons represent public IP addresses or internet-facing resources. Subnet nodes appear as grid icons. The full icon set matches the Azure resource type icons used in the Azure portal.

Prerequisites

Azure Network Topology is available for any Azure account already connected to Cloudmon for monitoring. No additional configuration is required beyond the existing Azure integration. If an Azure account is not yet connected, refer to Azure Cloud Monitoring with Cloudmon for setup steps.
