How To Manually Install Cloudmon Linux Agent and Probe on Ubuntu 24

Install the Cloudmon agent or probe manually on Ubuntu 24

Overview

This guide explains how to manually install the Cloudmon agent and the Cloudmon probe on Ubuntu 24.

Both installations follow the same process: download the installer package listed in versions.json, grant execute permissions, run the installer, and verify the service. The agent installation also needs an API key from the Cloudmon Controller. The probe installation uses both the probe and the collector installers.

ℹ️

Note: Ensure commands are executed with elevated (root) permissions. Verify network reachability between the server and the Controller before starting the installation.

Installing the Cloudmon Agent

The agent is installed from the command line using the installer package for Linux.

Step 1: Download the Latest Agent Package

Open the following URL in your browser:

https://repo.cloudmon.ai/versions.json

Copy the Agent URL for agent.linux.x86_64 (starting with https) from the JSON file.

On the Ubuntu 24 machine, run:

curl -O <agent-url>

Example:

curl -O https://repo.cloudmon.ai/alpha/Linux/cloudmon-agent-5.1.0-7-Linux-x86_64.run

Step 2: Grant Execute Permissions

chmod +x cloudmon-agent-<version>

Example:

chmod +x cloudmon-agent-5.1.0-7-Linux-x86_64.run

Step 3: Get the API Key

To obtain the required API Key for registering the Agent:

  1. Log in to the Cloudmon Controller.
  2. Click on your User Profile (top-right corner).
  3. Select Help.
  4. You will be redirected to the Agent article page by default.
  5. Scroll down to the Linux Installation section.
  6. Copy the API Key displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Run the Agent

./cloudmon-agent-<version> --server <controller-ip> --key <api-key>

Example:

./cloudmon-agent-5.1.0-7-Linux-x86_64.run --server 192.168.1.100 --key your-api-key-here

Replace:

  • <controller-ip>: your Cloudmon Controller IP address
  • <api-key>: the generated API key

Step 5: Verification

After completing the installation, verify that the Agent service is running and that communication with the Controller is successful.

1. Check Agent Service Status

service cloudmon-agent status

Ensure the service is active (running).

2. Verify Network Connectivity to Controller

ping <controller-ip>

You should receive successful replies.

3. Verify HTTPS Connectivity to Controller

curl -v https://<controller-ip>

This verifies that the Agent can communicate with the Controller over HTTPS.

⚠️

Important Notes

• Do not include angle brackets (< >) when entering actual values in commands.
• Ensure commands are executed with elevated (root) permissions.
• Verify network reachability between the Agent and Controller before starting the installation.

Installing the Cloudmon Probe

The Cloudmon probe is installed manually in the same way as the agent: download the packages, grant execute permissions, run them, and verify the services.

ℹ️

Note: The probe installation requires both the probe and the collector installer files. Download and install both.

Step 1: Download the Latest Probe and Collector Packages

Open the following URL in your browser:

https://repo.cloudmon.ai/versions.json

Copy the Probe URL for probe.linux.x86_64 and the Collector URL for collector.linux.x86_64 (both starting with https) from the JSON file.

On the Ubuntu 24 machine, run:

curl -O <probe-url>
curl -O <collector-url>

Example:

curl -O https://repo.cloudmon.ai/alpha/Linux/cloudmon-probe-5.0.1-13-Linux-x86_64.run
curl -O https://repo.cloudmon.ai/alpha/Linux/cloudmon-collector-5.8.0-11-Linux-x86_64.run

Step 2: Grant Execute Permissions

chmod +x cloudmon-probe-<version>
chmod +x cloudmon-collector-<version>

Example:

chmod +x cloudmon-probe-5.0.1-13-Linux-x86_64.run
chmod +x cloudmon-collector-5.8.0-11-Linux-x86_64.run

Step 3: Get the API Key

To obtain the required API Key for registering the Probe and Collector:

  1. Log in to the Cloudmon Controller.
  2. Click on your User Profile (top-right corner).
  3. Select Help.
  4. You will be redirected to the Agent article page by default. Select the Probe article page from the navigation bar
  5. Scroll down to the Linux Installation section.
  6. Copy the API Key displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Run the Probe and Collector Installers

Run both installers with elevated (root) permissions:

./cloudmon-probe-<version> --server <controller-ip> --key <api-key>
./cloudmon-collector-<version> --server <controller-ip> --key <api-key>

Example:

./cloudmon-probe-5.0.1-13-Linux-x86_64.run --server 192.168.1.100 --key your-api-key-here
./cloudmon-collector-5.8.0-11-Linux-x86_64.run --server 192.168.1.100 --key your-api-key-here

Replace:

  • <controller-ip>: your Cloudmon Controller IP address
  • <api-key>: the generated API key

Step 5: Verification

After completing the installation, verify that the Probe and Collector services are running.

1. Check Probe Service Status

service cloudmon-probe status

Ensure the service is active (running).

2. Check the Collector Service

systemctl list-units --type=service | grep -i cloudmon

This lists every installed Cloudmon service. Confirm the collector service is active (running) alongside the probe.

3. Check the Probe Installation Log

cat /var/log/cloudmon-probe-install.log

The log records the installation steps and any errors.

⚠️

Important Notes

• Do not include angle brackets (< >) when entering actual values in commands.
• Ensure commands are executed with elevated (root) permissions.
• Both the probe and the collector installers must be run.
