User Roles

Create and manage roles that define which pages users can access and which actions they are permitted to perform within Cloudmon.

Overview

User roles are the foundation of access control in Cloudmon. Every user account must be assigned a role, and the role determines what that user can see and do. Cloudmon supports two role types: the built-in Super Admin role which has full read and write access across everything and cannot be deleted, and custom roles which can be tailored to any combination of page visibility and action permissions.

Custom roles are flexible. A supervisor role might have full read and write access across all pages, while an operator role might have read-only access to most pages but write access to specific sections. A customer-facing role might be restricted to only the pages relevant to their own environment. Role definitions can be updated at any time and the changes apply immediately to all users assigned that role.

Creating a User Role

  1. Navigate to Settings → General Settings → User Management → User Roles.
  2. Click the Add button in the top right corner.
  3. Fill in the fields as described in the table below.
  4. Click Save.
FieldDescription
NameA descriptive name for the role that makes its purpose clear, such as "NOC Operator", "Read Only", or "Customer View".
Permission to Access and View PagesSpecifies which pages users with this role can navigate to and view. Pages not enabled here will not be visible or accessible to the user.
Permission to Perform ActionsDefines which actions users assigned this role are allowed to perform, such as creating, editing, deleting, or acknowledging items within accessible pages.

Once saved, the role is available for assignment when creating or editing user accounts.

Role Types

Cloudmon supports the following role configurations: Full Read/Write access gives the user the ability to view all assigned pages and perform all actions on them. Read-Only access lets the user view pages but not make changes. No Access removes visibility of a page entirely for that role. These levels can be combined across different pages within a single role, for example giving an operator full access to the Alarms page but read-only access to Network Device settings.
